The police have arrested four men aged 25-40 from Along Jap, a gang believed to be involved in stealing old vehicles around South Klang from April 10-30, Bernama reports.
According to Selangor deputy police chief DCP Mohd Zaini Abu Hassan, the suspects have been active since the end of last year and were arrested separately through Op Lejang. Besides South Klang, they were also found to be active in stealing vehicles in North Klang, Shah Alam and Kuala Selangor.
Four- and two-wheelers such as the Perodua Kancil, Proton Iswara, Proton Iriz, Honda EX5 and Yamaha Y15 were targeted.
“Also found along with the suspect were six vehicles including one car frame, six motorcycles and one frame. Checks revealed that all the suspects had 30 previous criminal records related to crimes, followed by 22 drug-related cases,” Mohd Zaini said yesterday.
Investigations found that the suspects did not sell the stolen vehicles – instead, they used them daily with changed number plates and spare parts from other stolen vehicles. Mohd Zaini said the group’s modus operandi was to take advantage of those who left their keys in their vehicles.
“With this arrest, police believe they have successfully solved eight motorcycle theft cases and nine old vehicle theft cases in the South Klang area and nearby districts,” he said, adding that the suspect was found to be positive for methamphetamine-type drugs and that the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
