It doesn’t look like Grand Theft Auto 6 will be launching on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is now due for release on May 26, 2026 after the game was pushed back from a 2025 launch window

To make up for the delay, developers Rockstar Games shared a new trailer yesterday (May 6) alongside a number of screenshots from GTA 6 as well as information about characters, maps and story.

The updated Grand Theft Auto 6 website also confirms the game will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. It means Switch 2 owners won’t be playing on release day and fans aren’t even sure if the game will ever arrive on Nintendo’s latest console.

Earlier this year, publishers Take-Two suggested Grand Theft Auto 6 would be available on the Switch 2 after the two previous entries in the series skipped Nintendo consoles entirely. “We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Nintendo. We’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release,” said CEO Strauss Zelnick, with several Borderlands games released on the Switch alongside WWE 2K and NBA 2K titles.

“There was a time when Nintendo platforms were geared at younger audiences, that was reflected in our release schedule. Today, with Switch and potentially with Switch 2, the Switch device can support any audience,” he added.

Grand Theft Auto 6 still doesn’t have a PC release date either. Earlier this year, one tech company claimed the game would be arriving “early 2026” for PC following the planned 2025 launch for Xbox and PlayStation. However it later rolled back those claims

Grand Theft Auto 5 was originally released in September 2013 while the PC version came in April 2015. There was also a 13-month gap between the console and PC versions of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. However Take-Two has hinted that PC gamers will have a shorter wait for GTA 6. “We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that trend continue.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches next month (June 5) with a brand new Mario Kart game alongside upgraded versions of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Tears Of The Kingdom and Hogwarts Legacy

Despite backlash over the price of the bigger, more powerful console, fans have been struggling to secure pre-orders with retailers quickly selling out of their allocation.

In other news, a new rumour suggests 28 Days Later’s Alex Garland will be directing a movie adaptation of Elden Ring – but fans aren’t convinced.
