The GAC Aion V has made its Malaysian appearance, following its Thailand market launch last year where it is on sale as a single variant.
This is the second generation of the manufacturer’s electric crossover model, which measures 4,605 mm long, 1,876 mm wide and 1,686 mm tall, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase. Compared to the BYD Atto 3, the Aion V is 150 mm longer, one mm wider and 71 mm taller, with a 55 mm longer wheelbase.
This features a single-motor drivetrain producing 150 kW (204 PS) and 240 Nm of torque, enabling the 0-100 km/h benchmark to be run in 7.9 seconds, and on to a top speed of 160 km/h.
Energy is stored in a 75.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) GAC Magazine Battery that provides up to 602 km of range on the NEDC test cycle, a figure which is likely to be closer to 500 km on the more stringent WLTP testing standard.
The Aion V supports up to 180 kW of DC charging, which will bring a 30-80% recharge in 16 minutes, or add 330 km of additional range in 15 minutes. Its AC charging is more modest, limited to 7 kWm however it does offer vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability at 3.3 kW.
Equipment includes 19-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera system with a transparency function, and a powered tailgate.
Inside, the Aion V sports a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen on the dashboard, which joins a 8.9-inch instrument display for the driver, who will steer with a two-spoke multifunction wheel. The centre console is home to twin phone holders, including one Qi wireless device charger; audio is by a nine-speaker setup.
Further conveniences inside include dual-zone climate control, a one-touch lie-flat feature for the power-adjustable front seats (with heating, ventilation, massage and driver’s side memory), a folding rear tray behind the front passenger, a large panoramic glass roof, up to 137 degrees of rear seat backrest adjustment and a 6.6 litre fridge underneath the front arm rest.
For safety kit, the Aion V gets six airbags, while driving assistance features include AEB, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear collision warning and a door opening warning.
WTC Automotif stated that the Aion V is expected to get its official Malaysian market launch in the third quarter of this year. Meanwhile its group stablemate, the GAC M8 PHEV is available for booking in Malaysia, the company also announced today.
