Fuoco, Ferrari back on top in third Spa 6 Hours practice

Antonio Fuoco was the fastest in the final FIA WEC practice session for the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in the No. 50 AF Corse Ferrari 499P this morning with a 2m00.596s. The No. 50 didn’t have a clean session though, as Fuoco went straight on at Les Combes on a set of fresh tires early on.

Towards the end of the session, Alessandro Pier Guidi in the sister car also had a moment, making side-on contact at Eau Rouge with the No. 46 Team WRT BMW M4 LMGT3 driven by Ahmad Al Harty. Both cars suffered minor bodywork damage and the M4 ended up briefly airborne as the Omani skipped across the grass. He did an impressive job to keep it away of the barriers.

The two Jota Cadillacs V Series R finished up second and third. The faster of the two was the No. 38 with a 2m00.793s. The No. 12 of Alex Lynn, Norman Nato and Will Stevens completed the top three.

The No. 20 Tearn WRT BMW M Hybrid V8 sat second fastest for most of the session yet its lap times were cancelled by the race director after Robin Frijns was caught speeding in the pit-lane.

The top five was completed by the No. 83 AF Corse Ferrari 499P and the No. 8 Toyota Gazoo Racing GR010 Hybrid. Ryo Hirakawa had an off at Turn 5 without damaging the car during the earlier part of the session.

The Hypercar championship-leading No. 51 Ferrari 499P finished up in ninth position with a (2m02.252s). The car was fully repaired after going off at Raidillon during FP2 yesterday.

In LMGT3, the fastest driver on track was Simon Mann in the No. 21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3 (2m17.831s). He was three tenths quicker than the No. 88 Proton Competition Ford Mustang LMGT3 driven by Stefano Gattuso, Giammarco Levorato and Dennis Olsen (2m18.181s).

The No. 87 Akkodis ASP Team Lexus RC F LMGT3 was third fastest (2m18.676s). The sister No. 78 car was fifth (2m19.1633), some three tenths slower than the No. 10 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Vantage AMR LMGT3 (2m18.877s)

Further down in the classification, the LMGT3 points-leading No. 33 TF Sport Corvette Z06 LMGT3-R occupied finished the running down in 17th position with a 2m20.590s.

The No. 60 Iron Lynx Mercedes AMG LMGT3 did not make it out. The car is still being repaired following yesterday’s violent shunt at Raidillon. The car should however be ready to take part in this afternoon’s qualifying session.
