Tom Aspinall headlines London return – March 2022

Aspinall proved to be the real deal when he produced a stunning first-round finish over Alexander Volkov in March 2022.

The Brit was the first to land a significant blow at the O2 Arena before impressively dragging his 6ft7in Russian opponent to the canvas with relative ease.

Volkov made it to his feet and tried his best to evade Aspinall‘s subsequent shots, but the Mancunian was relentless and and brought his opponent to the floor again.

Aspinall made Volkov pay this time, going straight for the armbar and the latter had no other choice but to submit.

The Brit suffered a horrible injury in his next fight, also in London, against Curtis Blaydes, before becoming the UFC’s interim heavyweight champion by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich.

He is expected to take on Jon Jones in the biggest fight of his career this year to unify the UFC heavyweight division once and for all.

Michael Bisping defeats Anderson Silva – February 2016

Four months before he became the first British fighter to win a UFC title, Bisping initiated a legend killing in his own back yard.

Bisping went toe-to-toe with arguably the greatest UFC fighter of all time in Anderson Silva for five rounds at the O2 Arena in February 2016.

‘The Count’ survived a controversial heavy knockdown in the third round to defeat Silva via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the contest 48–47 in the Brit’s favour.

The pair shared a beautiful moment of sportsmanship after the bout as both men fell to their knees in the middle of the cage and embraced in front of an appreciative London crowd.

UFC Hall of Famer Bisping was bloodied up after the fight and was emotional in his post-octagon interview.

“I used to stay up until five in the morning to watch this guy, every time,” he said.

“I wanted to fight him, I wanted to test him… he is a guy that I wanted to fight for so long.”

Bisping knocked out Luke Rockhold in one of the most epic UFC upsets of all time to win the middleweight title after being Silva.

He then defended it against Dan Henderson before losing it to MMA icon Georges St-Pierre and leaving the UFC after another loss to Kevin Gastelum less than one month after the loss.
