New Line’s darkly comic horror revival “Final Destination: Bloodlines” easily topped the domestic box-office this weekend, the title coming in first with a $21 million opening day and a three-day estimate of around $46 million.
The film not only scored good critical reviews with a 93% on RT and 74 on MC, but has landed a B+ CinemaScore with audiences – high for a horror film which are often in the ‘C’ range.
Second and third will be a battle between “Sinners” and “Thunderbolts” with both tracking for weekends in the $15-16 million range – drops of 32% in its fifth weekend and 52% in its third weekend respectively. “Sinners” has also just passed $300 million at the global box-office.
Fourth will go to “A Minecraft Movie” which is set for $5.9 million in its seventh weekend, a drop of just 23% even as the title is now available on PVOD platforms. “The Accountant 2” is set for $4.6 million for the weekend in fifth place.
The widely panned Jenna Ortega and The Weeknd-led thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow” is headed for a dismal $3-3.6 million start in sixth place. That film scored a bad C- CinemaScore as well.
Rounding out the top ten are “Clown in a Cornfield” and “Friendship” with $1.4 million each, “Until Dawn” with $750,000 and “The Amateur” with $700,000.
