The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released vehicle sales data for the month of February 2025, which saw a total of 63,906 vehicles delivered to customers. With 48,732 units sold in January 2025, last month’s figure represents an increase of 15,174 units or 31%.
The association says the increase was attributed to the market stabilising after recovering from the setback in January 2025. When comparing year-over-year (YoY) figures, February 2025 is down by almost 2% from the 65,017 units reported for February 2024. As for the year-to-date (YTD) figure, the first two months of 2025 saw 113,056 vehicles sold. This is 14% less than the same corresponding period in 2024 that recorded 131,938 units.
It’s worth noting that sales of commercial vehicles for the month of February 2025 are 24% less than the same month last year. Meanwhile, passenger vehicle sales went up by a scant 45 units. Year-to-date, sales of both passenger and commercial vehicles are down by 12% and 35% respectively compared to 2024.
The association expects sales volume to be higher for the month of March 2025 compared to February 2025 due to the push to have vehicles delivered before the Hari Raya holidays. Additionally, companies are aiming to complete deliveries before the financial year ending March 31, 2025, and March is historically known for being a high sales month.
In terms of vehicle production, February 2025 recorded 61,545 units, which is 7% less than the 66,464 units for February 2024. Reflecting sales, the YTD production figure as of February 2025 is 118,444 units, down 17% from 143,516 units recorded for the same period in 2024.
