Former NHLer Josh Leivo sets KHL record for goals in single season

The former NHLer scored his 49th goal of the season with Ufa Salavat Yulaev to set the new single-season league record.
The forward created a turnover in the offensive zone, which allowed him to skate in and fire a shot past Barys goaltender Artyom Shestakov.
Leivo’s teammates cleared the bench to celebrate on the ice after he achieved the milestone.
In 62 games, Leivo has 49 goals and 80 points, and his success this season earned him a two-year contract extension back in February.
The 31-year-old joined Salavat Yulaev back in the 2023-24 season. In his first season, Leivo had 15 goals and 38 points in 40 games.
The Innisfil, Ont., native was drafted 86th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2011. He spent 10 seasons in the NHL with Toronto, the Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes.
