We saw it at Auto Shanghai and it’s now here at this year’s Malaysia Autoshow (MAS 2025). This is the Chery Tiggo 8, specifically the facelifted version with a plug-in hybrid system (dubbed Chery Super Hybrid or CSH).
Arriving as part of a preview alongside the Tiggo 7 CSH (also a PHEV) and Tiggo Cross, the Tiggo 8 CSH features a 1.5 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine that has a thermal efficiency of 44.5% and delivers 154 hp and 220 Nm of torque.
It is paired with a three-speed Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that integrates two electric motors rated at 201 hp and 310 Nm. According to Chery Malaysia, the overall system output is a mighty 347 PS and 525 Nm, with drive going to the front wheels.
An 18.3-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery provides up to 95 km of electric-only range, with support for both AC and DC charging. The company isn’t providing charging capacities but says the battery can be fully charged via a wall plug in 8.5 hours, an AC input in three hours and a DC input from 30-80% in 19 minutes.
In hybrid mode, the maximum range with the 60-litre fuel tank is up to 1,200 km following the WLTP standard. The brand claims if the battery charge is between 25-100%, the fuel consumption recorded is 1.3L/100 km, while with a low battery charge rate of below 25%, fuel consumption can still reach 4.9L/100 km.
Visual changes from the current Tiggo 8 include new headlamps and a grille with a thinner surround. The front bumper has also been swapped out for a new design that incorporates functional air curtains too.
Along the sides, you’ll find flush door handles, while the rear remains largely familiar aside from the more expressive diffuser-like element. On the petrol-only version of the Tiggo 8 Pro, there are twin round exhaust tips instead of the newer model’s trapezoidal-shaped units.
Inside, the facelifted Tiggo 8 features a new dashboard that now has its displays separated. The redesigned centre console is also higher and meets with the central air vents, although this sees the removal of the climate controls that are integrated into touchscreen. Another big change is the rotary gear selector and space for two smartphones, with one slot having an air-cooled wireless charger.
Chery Malaysia says the Tiggo 8 PHEV is expected to go on sale here in the second half of 2025, although it isn’t confirming anything related to specifications or pricing for now.
