Actor Michael Pitt, famous for his roles in Boardwalk Empire and Dawson’s Creek, has been arrested on charges of sexual abuse and assault in New York City.
According to court records reported by Deadline, Pitt was arrested on May 2. He was arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court on eight counts, including two counts of first-degree sexual abuse and other related charges stemming from four domestic incidents that allegedly took place between April 2020 and August 2021.
Putt pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $15,000 bail. He is next due to appear in court on June 17.
Pitt’s attorney, Jason Goldman, gave the following statement to the outlet: “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual. In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, at a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual and voluntary relationship. This case will be dismissed”.
Pitt came to prominence in the early 2000s as part of the teen drama Dawson’s Creek, playing the character Henry Parker in a recurring role as a love interest of Michelle Williams’ character Jen. He would also appear in independent films such as Funny Games and 2005’s Last Days, where he played a fictional musician inspired by Kurt Cobain.
He would play a prominent role in the first two seasons of HBO drama Boardwalk Empire, playing Jimmy, the protégé of Atlantic City gangster Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi). He would also appear in thriller Hannibal, as the antagonist Mason Verger in season two of the show.
His most recent work was 2023 film Day Of The Fight, playing a boxer opposite several Boardwalk Empire cast members.
