Blue Jays hitting coach David Popkins ejected vs. Red Sox
Popkins was ejected in the bottom of the fourth inning for arguing balls and strike by Thomas after catcher Alejandro Kirk took a changeup on the outside corner for a called strike three.

As the Toronto Blue Jays offence continued to struggle Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox, hitting coach David Popkins began to get fed up with home-plate umpire Derek Thomas’s strike zone.
Popkins was ejected in the bottom of the fourth inning for arguing balls and strikes by Thomas after catcher Alejandro Kirk took a changeup on the outside corner for a called strike three.
Kirk walked away looking frustrated and replays showed that Popkins was ejected after the at-bat.
Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito appeared to be getting a favourable zone on the outside corner to right-handed hitters through the first four innings.
Through those first four innings, Toronto trailed 4-0 and had managed three hits and a walk.
The lineup has hit a serious rut over the last couple weeks, as the Blue Jays haven’t scored more than four runs since April 15.
