Second baseman Andres Gimenez exited Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels after dealing with right quad tightness in the top of the seventh inning.
According to the team, he was removed from the game for precautionary reasons
Gimenez appeared to suffer the injury after legging out an infield single. Manager John Schneider and other members of the Blue Jays went to check on him but he stayed in the game and ultimately scored on the ensuing rally.
He was later replaced at second base by Ernie Clement, who slid over from third base. Replacing Clement at third was Addison Barger, who also took Gimenez’s spot in the lineup, batting seventh.
Up to that point in the game, the 26-year-old second baseman had one hit and one run in three at-bats.
On the season, Gimenez is batting .195 with a .575 OPS and three home runs.
He was acquired by the Blue Jays in the off-season in a trade from the Cleveland Guardians.
