Just moments before Leon Draisaitl drove home a Connor McDavid pass on a two-on-one to take Game 2 in extra time, the Oilers were the beneficiaries of a non-call that left one of the Golden Knights’ veterans injured.
Oilers forward Viktor Arvidsson and Golden Knights defenceman Brayden McNabb were racing to the puck in Vegas’ zone when Arvidsson appeared to give McNabb a shove, sending the 34-year-old hard into the end boards.
No penalty was called on the play.

“Listen, Gord (Dwyer) is looking at it. He blew it, he missed the call. I don’t know what else to say,” Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters after the game. “It’s a can-opener trip, it’s a dangerous play, it’s all those things. But it didn’t get called, so you’ve got to keep playing.”
McNabb appeared to be favouring his left arm as he left the ice.
Cassidy had no update on McNabb’s condition.
“Nabber is one of our guys that we, well, one of the most popular teammates in the room, so that is the tough part of playing through it. It’s not as easy as it looks.
“At the end of the day, that’s the task in front of you when those calls happen, or don’t happen.”
If McNabb is unavailable for Game 3, the Golden Knights could be down two defencemen when the series shifts to Edmonton. Nicolas Roy was ejected from the game after receiving a five-minute major penalty for a high cross-check and could receive supplemental discipline from the league.
