Avianca LifeMiles has had quite a few award devaluations in the past few months, so it makes very little sense to buy their miles anymore for Star Alliance awards due to their IT and customer service challenges (you could tolerate those before if the price was right).
Now, they are trying to promote these economy awards for Avianca flights that may make sense for one of the shorter flights but very painful on longer ones, as they are pretty much LCC shop today.
