Set to debut April 10 is the 2026 BMW Motorrad R1300 R naked sports, or ‘roadster’ in BMW parlance. Joining the BMW Motorrad R1300 GS (priced at RM138,500 in Malaysia), the R1300 R is expected to be joined by the R1300 RS sports-tourer and R1300 RT tourer.
Like the previous generation R1200 R and R1250 R (RM114,500 in Malaysia), the R1300 R will come with BMW Motorrad’s signature boxer-twin engine, taken off the R1300 GS. Expect power output from the air- and oil-cooled engine to be close to the adventure-tourer, with 145 hp at 7,500 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Also expect to see BMW Motorrad’s technical expertise applied to the R1300 R, notably Automated Shift Assistant which might be a factory-fitted option. The system allows for clutch-less operation of the gear lever, using an electro-mechanical servo operated clutch, somewhat similar to the system used on the Honda CB650.
The teaser image shown on BMW Motorrad’s Youtube channel also shows a new LED DRL arrangement with two downward pointing elements, as opposed to the ‘X’ LED DRL arrangement on the R1300 GS. Electronically controlled semi-active suspension is likely to be standard equipment, following BMW Motorrad’s practice of reserving this for its top-of-the-line motorcycles.
Since the new 1,300 cc boxer engine is lighter than its predecessor, the R1300 R will presumably weigh less than the 239 kg fully-fuelled weight of the R1250 R. As for pricing, the R1300 R is not expected to deviate much from the price level of the current R1250 R, give or take a few thousand Ringgit.
