Edaran Otomobil Nasional (EON) is providing 62 vehicles for the use of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire victims as well as the parties providing assistance. The loan period is one month, without any charges.
The wholly-owned subsidiary of DRB-Hicom, which is a multi-brand dealer, is loaning 40 vehicles to families whose cars had been destroyed or damaged by the fire. The fleet includes sedans, SUVs and MPVs from Proton, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen. In addition, EON’s car rental subsidiary Avis Malaysia will be providing 22 units of pick-up trucks and smart EVs to government agencies and organisations providing assistance.
“Many families have not only lost their homes, but also their main means of transportation due to the fire. As amongst the country’s largest multi-brand vehicle dealerships, EON is grateful to be in a position to give them some immediate relief in this difficult period,” said EON CEO Akkbar Danial.
“It is heartening to see the many NGO’s that have come forward to help the fire victims. Our fleet of pick-up trucks are ready for deployment to assist in their relief efforts. For now, EON is providing the vehicles to affected persons and NGOs without charge for one month. This may may be extended depending on specific needs,” added Akkbar, who is also the head of automotive distribution at DRB-Hicom.
“On behalf of the EON Group, I offer our deepest sympathies to all those affected by this catastrophe. We pray for those who suffered injuries for a quick recovery, and hope for everyone affected to have the strength, courage, and support needed to rebuild their lives,” he said.
Online car marketplace Carro and Chery have also pledged loaner cars to the fire victims.
