Multiple Oscar nominee Hans Zimmer says he is in no rush to do the score for another superhero film any time soon.
Previously Zimmer indicated he’d retired from scoring movies in the genre with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” but he didn’t stick to that promise – going on to score 2019’s “Dark Phoenix” and 2020’s “Wonder Woman 1984”.
Before that his works in the genre included Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” and Marc Webb’s “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he indicates he’s done with the genre this time and with good reason:
“Look, I’ve done the trifecta. I’ve done Batman, Superman, Spider-Man and Wonder Woman, I mean, what do you want me to do? Some of the minor characters? Probably yes.”
He was then asked if Marvel had already approached him about working on one of their films, Zimmer confirmed that they had and he had turned them down:
“Timing wasn’t great. And really, quite honestly, I’m looking for other things right now. That was very arrogant of me to say that. Kevin Feige said that to me, ‘Hans, what are you complaining about?'”
The “Dune” and “Top Gun: Maverick” composer recently co-composed the “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” soundtrack with “Mission: Impossible alum Lorne Balfe, co-composed the BBC’s new take on “Lord of the Flies” with Kara Talve, and is doing the scores for both Ron Howard’s “Eden” and Joseph Kosinski’s “F1”.
