Developer White Paper Games are aiming to please psychological thriller fans with their newly-announced title I Am Ripper. Coming to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the game aims to continue the developer’s focus on story delivery, tactile gameplay and “meaningful consequence.”
It’s 1988, a small north-western dock town in Britain has witnessed multiple victims by a single killer who have been confirmed through forensic analysis. It’s up to you to unravel the mystery and catch the killer. However, throughout the game, you’ll be faced with critical decisions which will change the outcome of your investigation. You must confront a series of gut-wrenching challenges placing the fates of others in your hands.
To go along with the critical decisions you’ll have to make in your investigation, those choices will ripple through your timelines and change story outcomes “in distinct ways.” I Am Ripper will also feature “tactile gameplay,” where gameplay mechanics feature high interactivity that complement the game’s world building, performances and storytelling.
According to White Paper Games, I Am Ripper is not a puzzle game, or a horror game, or even a detective game. Rather, it has all the key components of those genres “to create something that feels rewarding, explorative of core themes and characters that feel real and grounded in their world.”
The devs state that while the thriller genre has been catered to thanks to film and television, podcasts and the like, it hasn’t been served as well with games. “We want I Am Ripper to cater to all those people who love gritty thrillers, but don’t have an interactive way of exploring the themes, situations and challenges in a non-linear way.”
