During the contest, Finau made a stunning hole-in-one on the seventh before leaping in the air to celebrate. However, he slipped during his wild celebrations, suffering a gruesome ankle injury. Finau immediately popped his dislocated ankle back into place before going for an X-ray. Once the tests revealed he had not suffered any breaks, instead only a high ankle sprain, he was clear to play in the tournament. Following the injury, he wrote on X: “Crazy dat. Thanks for thoughts of concern, messages and prayers from all. I’m optimistic.” Finau went on to finish his week at seven-under-par to place tied for 10th with Dustin Johnson. The pair were eight shots off the winner Patrick Reed, who edged out Rickie Fowler by a single shot. Once the tournament was over, Finau posted a series of snaps of his injury to social media. In pictures shared to Instagram, his ankle could be seen covered in bruising and swollen as a result of his painful slip.
