White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt will brief journalists Thursday morning as concerns over the economy mount following President Trump's sweeping tariffs and executive orders since returning to the Oval Office just over 100 days ago.
During a town hall event with NewsNation on Wednesday evening that featured a call from Trump, the president asked viewers to give him time to improve the economy. His plea came after data released earlier Wednesday showed the U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) shrank by 0.3 percent during the first quarter of 2025.
The president is also facing pressure over the overhaul of the federal workforce, including mass layoffs, and the administration's crackdown on immigration.
Leavitt will be joined by deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
