Canadiens’ Patrik Laine, Samuel Montembeault give injury updates
The Montreal Canadiens forward said that the injury occurred in Game 2 which forced him to sit out the final three games of the series.

Patrik Laine and Samuel Montembeault were both injured during the Montreal Canadiens‘ opening-round series against the Washington Capitals. Now we know more about what injuries they were dealing with.
Laine revealed on Friday that he had broken a finger during Game 2 of the series, which forced him to miss the final three games. Montembeault was injured in Game 3 when he pulled himself in the second period. On Friday he said he tore his groin but won’t require surgery this summer.
Montreal went on to lose in five games to Washington. Jakub Dobes started the final two games in goal for the Canadiens.
Laine had 20 goals — including 15 on the power play — and 13 assists in 52 games this past season after missing the first two months with a knee injury.
The 27-year-old joined the Canadiens last off-season, along with a second-round draft pick from the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenceman Jordan Harris.
Montembeault had breakout season for the Canadiens, earning a selection to Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off team. He set a career-high with 31 wins and had a .902 save percentage in 62 appearances this year.
