Turn Any Tripod into a Leveling Tripod with This Adapter
If you’ve ever tried to set a shot with a tripod out in the field, then you’ll know that finding a perfectly level surface to place said tripod is damn near impossible. It just doesn’t exist. Even in controlled environments, perfectly level floors can be hard to secure. That’s why tripods are traditionally designed with adjustable legs. It’s a constant dance to find the right position, though, to get that perfectly level shot. And if you’re working fast, you might give up altogether and just look to fix it in post—which isn’t ideal either. To solve this problem, Vanguard is introducing an innovative new LVL Universal Tripod Leveling System, which is set to include five models that can be fitted to any tripod and solve these camera and tripod leveling issues for you. Let’s check out how this new technology works.Leveling Issues with TripodsTo get around leveling issues in the past, you could use the level from your toolbox (which always got lost on set), try to eyeball it (wouldn't recommend it), or just buy a tripod that comes with a built-in or removable level (probably the best option). However, if you didn't have the budget for a new tripod or just really liked the one you had, there weren't many options to improve the leveling for your tripod—until now.Vanguard’s New LVL Universal Tripod Leveling SystemTo solve these leveling issues with old tripods, Vanguard has just introduced the LVL Universal Tripod Levelling System, which includes five models that can be fitted to any tripod, in a range of sizes to best match your own personal tripod and head combination. Shooters can use this LVL Universal Tripod Levelling System by simply matching the best fit by measuring the top plate of their tripod and matching it to the most suitable Vanguard leveling adaptor. Vanguard shares that these leveling adapters all have a 3/8” thread and come supplied with a 1/4” adaptor that allows them to be fitted to any tripod from any brand. On the top is a 1/4” thread, which will further allow users to fit any tripod head. Plus, smaller heads can also fit on directly, and users can simply use the 3/8” to 1/4” adaptor supplied with any larger tripod head.To secure everything together between the tripod head and the level are three locking screws. Users need to only simply screw on their chosen head and then tighten these using the 2.5mm hex key provided to ensure the head doesn’t come loose by accident. Once fitted, this will further allow users to rotate the leveling base by 360° and adjust the tilt by ±15° (or ±13° on the smallest LVL-42).Price and AvailabilityThe LVL Universal Tripod Levelling System options are available on Vanguard’s website here and range from £55.00 ($70.78) for a 42mm base to £100.00 ($128.70) for a 75mm base.
