There are a handful of runners either still without a flat win or a very lowly strike-rate. Two four-year-old fillies present a bit of opportunity, Thunderous Love and Calafrio. The former has drifted a touch in the odds but should be suited by a return to the turf on good ground. Last placing second at Brighton back in September on good ground. She returned for the season earlier this month beating Asadjumeirah at Southwell and could be in better form as a whole for her four-year-old campaign. Thunderous Love has reached 3lb higher than this in the overall ratings so could still have more to offer while returning to that level. Brentford Hope The first tip of Punchestown sees the top-rated Gaucher make plenty of appeal after winning a Grade 2 novice two starts ago. Then when the Frankel gelding reappeared in another novice Grade 2 managed a respectable fourth when carrying a 6lb penalty. Today is tougher though and as a result the Willie Mullins-trained horse is firmly in the double digits to win. Brentford Hope has been given a huge chance by the handicapper with a reduction of 6lb after three straight defeats over hurdles, one being a second to Constitution Hill and the other a fourth place at Wincanton behind Golden Ace, Burdett Road and Hansard. Placed second in this last year behind Daddy Long Legs off 3lb higher. Kopek Des Bordes Salvator Mundi wasn’t quite suited to the Cheltenham run that saw him nearly 20 lengths off of Kopek Des Bordes. As a result though, the Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old is the clear favourite. The only way to approach this for me, is length/distance betting as I feel there’s still more to come from this super star Supreme winner. Leader Des Bordes Leader Des Bordes makes all the appeal here at 11/4, of course there’s never a guarantee that being a full or half brother to winners is going to make them a winner as well. But given his close ties, being a half brother to as many as seven winners including Kopek des Bordes who also won a bumper in Ireland on his debut suggests plenty of potential. Not least the name, which isn’t often a positive or an indicator but on a rare occasion it can be, based on the owners and trainers hope for how good the horse is. Solness The Champion Chase rather fell apart in March at the Cheltenham Festival. Jonbon made a shuddering mistake putting him out of it entirely. Others who would usually have a say, Solness for example weakened out of contention while Quilixios and Libberty Hunter fell, and Energumene pulled up. Marine Nationale won in emotional fashion for owner-trainer Barry Connell and jockey Sean Flanagan, a few weeks after Michael O’Sullivan passed away who won on this horse in last year’s festival. Solness appeals for a bounce back after two solid wins including over Gaelic Warrior and Marine Nationale at Leopardstown this season. He’s certainly suited by a return to Ireland and now bids for his 11th top two finish in 19 races.
