Trump touts $5M visa gold card: 'Anybody want to buy one?'

President Donald Trump showed off his administration's new revenue-generating $5 million "gold card" immigrant visa on Thursday, flashing the gilded pocket-sized document with his image emblazoned across the front.

"For $5 million, this could be yours," Trump told reporters Thursday on Air Force One. "Anybody want to buy one?"

The president said the new pricey investor visa revamp, which he alternately called the "Gold Card" and "Trump Card" as he waved it in front of him, will become available "in about less than two weeks."

Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick touted plans in February to end the existing EB5 visa program, commonly known as the investor visa, and replace it with the gold card route to work status and citizenship. It will still require vetting but will come with a higher price tag.

"You have a green card. This is a gold card," Trump said at the time. "Wealthy people will be coming into our country by buying this card."

"They’ll be wealthy, and they’ll be successful, and they’ll be spending a lot of money and paying a lot of taxes and employing a lot of people, and we think it’s going to be extremely successful," he added.

According to the administration, thousands of people rushed to sign up after the idea was announced.

Trump's show and tell came a day after he announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs on nearly all of the U.S.'s foreign trading partners. He has pressed other nations to invest more in the U.S. and signaled he was open to negotiation.
