Schmid has played in two games for the Golden Knights this season, but has yet to get a start for the Pacific Division leaders. In those two appearances, the 24-year-old made 14 saves and didn’t allow a goal.
A fifth-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 2018, the Swiss goalie had 43 games of NHL experience under his belt before signing a two-year deal with Vegas last off-season.
Schmid has spent the majority of the 2024-25 season with the American Hockey League’s Henderson Silver Knights, posting a 9-18-4 record, 3.58 goals-against average and .886 save percentage over 30 games.
Ilya Samsonov and Adin Hill have been the Golden Knights’ primary goaltenders this season.
Vegas enters Saturday’s contest already having clinched a spot in the post-season. However, it is only three points up on the Los Angeles Kings for the division lead.
Calgary, meanwhile, is five points back of the Minnesota Wild with two games in hand.
You can watch as the Flames hope to make up some ground on Saturday with Minnesota sitting idle. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. MT / 10 p.m. ET and can be seen on Sportsnet or streamed on Sportsnet+.
