President Donald Trump said he would sign an executive order to extend the TikTok ban deadline in the United States.

ByteDance, the Chinese owner of TikTok, originally had until April 5 to divest its US operations to a company not considered a US adversary or effectively face a ban.

In a Truth Social post on Friday, Trump said he would allow TikTok to operate in the United States for another 75 days, giving his administration and ByteDance time to work out a deal.

"We do not want TikTok to go dark," Trump wrote. "We look forward to working with TikTok and China to close the Deal."

Trump first extended ByteDance's deadline in January, when the popular social media app was first set to shut down its US operations.
