While most Spanish horror masters of the '60s and '70s were preoccupied with various monsters and different aspects of the supernatural, certain directors navigated towards embracing the idea of human villains — the evil that lurks inside a man's mind. Chicho Ibáñez Serrador (also known as Narciso Ibáñez Serrador) became arguably the biggest champion of this more realistic direction in Fantaterror, and his horror film Who Can Kill a Child? remains one of the best and most disturbing examples of a more self-aware division of the genre.
