LUANDA – TAAG Angola Airlines launched its inaugural commercial passenger flight using the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Luanda – Johannesburg – Luanda route. The aircraft, designated D2 – TEQ, has recently been incorporated into the airline’s fleet to serve intercontinental and regional routes, marking a historic milestone as it is the first time the Boeing 787 model has been utilized in TAAG’s operations.

Nelson Rodrigues de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, emphasized the significance of this occasion: “The inaugural flight of TAAG’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and the incorporation of this aircraft into our regular flight schedule represent a significant milestone in our operations and a memorable moment for our entry-into-service project team. Indeed, this marks a new era for TAAG in terms of enhancing the customer experience aboard state-of-the-art equipment”.

The modernization of the fleet and the enhancement of service quality to meet excellence standards are key focus areas for the company, as outlined in TAAG’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2029. The configuration of the TAAG Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is notable for its total capacity of 313 passengers, which includes 16 in business class, 21 in premium economy, and 276 in economy class. This model is also distinguished by factors related to sustainability, including reduced noise pollution, lower fuel consumption compared to the previous generation, enhanced passenger comfort through a more spacious cabin environment, and integrated technology.

TAAG reaffirms its commitment to modernization, transformation, and the continuous improvement of the customer experience while strengthening connectivity between Angola and the rest of the world.

TAAG Angola Airlines E.P. is a state-owned airline and flag carrier of Angola. Based in Luanda, the airline operates domestic services within Angola, medium-haul services in Africa and long-haul services to Brazil, Cuba, and Portugal. The airline is a member of both the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the African Airlines Association. TAAG uses Quatro de Fevereiro Airport as their hub, but plans to move their hub progressively to Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport until the end of the first quarter of 2025. The first flight connection at the new airport was launched on November 10, 2024.
