Stephen Bunting claims stunning Premier League win on same night as he ends ten-year barren run

Stephen Bunting picked up a stunning night nine victory, having earlier ended an ten-year wait to win a match in the Premier League. Bunting has had a miserable time on the Premier League stage so far, having not won a match on any of the previous eight nights. Bunting secured a sensational victory in Berlin against all oddsPDC ‘The Bullet’ rolled up to night nine of the campaign in Berlin, Germany hoping to turn his fortunes around, but even he probably wouldn’t have predicted a nail-biting win in the final against Gerwyn Price. Bunting raced to an incredible 6-2 victory over Nathan Aspinall, his first of the Premier League Darts campaign. The win also saw him end an ten-year wait for a win in the invitational tournament, with his last coming in 2015. He averaged 103.4 on the night and it was one of his best performances to date against a misfiring Aspinall. Incredibly his run continued as he took out world No.1 Luke Humphries, winning 6-2 with his rival struggling for form. But after having yet to win a single match throughout the tournament he managed to take the night trophy home, beating Price 6-5 in a deciding leg. Bunting couldn’t believe his luck and saluted the crowd as he edge out a 5-3 victory. And it saw him earn five points, leaving him two away from seventh placed Chris Dobey. He remains eight points from a place in the top four but will take confidence from his remarkable turnaround. He said of his win: “Don’t get me wrong, there have been times through the Premier League where I’ve thought: ‘Could I finish on zero points?’ Sky SportsBunting was delighted having hit a perfect leg in practice earlier in the night[/caption] “But to get off the mark tonight and to win a night is such a special feeling. “I felt so good in the practice room, I hit a nine-darter early on. I’ve really enjoyed it, even though I’ve not won a game until tonight. “We all want to be in the Premier League, it’s the place to be and I want to be in it for many years to come.” Bunting came rock bottom in the 2015 instalment of the Premier League. And he will hope to now try and push on and spark a renaissance in this year’s competition, after finally getting off the mark. It was quite clear he had flown to foreign soil with huge confidence, which became evident in the practice room. ‘The Bullet’ was backstage waiting to step up to the oche, when he rolled up to the practice board putting in two maximums. The two 180’s set his tone as he pointed to the camera in celebration on both occasions. Bunting then rattled in the remaining score and couldn’t believe his luck, delighted while celebrating. He decided to celebrate as if he was Jude Bellingham, and it was a much needed boost to step on stage. Earlier in the campaign after continuing his pointless run with defeat to Chris Dobey in Cardiff, he had issued an emotional statement on his lack of form. But things are now more hopeful for the fan-favourite who will look to push on and try to make the most of his upturn in form.
