It’s been a while since the smart #5 was shown, but the hot Brabus version has finally been revealed at Milan Design Week. As expected, the high-performance electric SUV is the most powerful smart ever built, more so than even past Brabus models that were already pretty potent.
Full details have yet to be revealed, but it’s been confirmed that the car will harness 646 PS (475 kW) from its “flexible all-wheel-drive system,” most probably with dual motors. That’s actually the same as what the standard #5 AWD makes in China, yet with Launch Mode enabled, the Brabus will accelerate from zero to 100 km/h more than a second quicker at 3.8 seconds. This figure, by the way, is identical to the #1 Brabus‘, despite the #5 Brabus being a larger and presumably much heavier car.
Despite all this power, the car is still capable of a WLTP-rated range of 540 km through the same 100 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery fitted to other long-range #5 models. The car also features an 800-volt architecture that enables support for a massive 400 kW of DC fast charging power, topping up the pack from 10 to 80% charge in just 18 minutes.
Like the #1 and #3 Brabus, the #5 Brabus features no sheetmetal changes over the standard car and is differentiated only by red accents on the front spoiler, side mouldings, rear bumper, door mirrors and roof. Also fitted are a set of 21-inch Brabus Monoblock Z black alloy wheels with a polished rim, featuring the same ten-spoke design as on Bottrop’s tuned vehicles – this look is also reportedly coming to the #1.
Inside, the #5’s heated and ventilated seats are upholstered in Dinamica microfibre – the same material found in Mercedes-AMG models – while the steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara. You also get alloy pedals, microfibre headlining and plenty of Brabus logos, including on the headrest embroidery. As per the regular #5, the Brabus comes with lots of tech, such as twin 13-inch OLED touchscreens on the centre and passenger side and a 2,000-watt Sennheiser sound system with 20 speakers, including a centre raising speaker.
The #5 Brabus will be available to order in Germany starting April 24, priced from €60,900 (RM301,900); it will then be rolled out to further European markets in the second and third quarters of the year. The car will also be launched in China at Auto Shanghai on April 23.
