Before the first practice session of the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, a special podium ceremony was held in Victory Lane to recognize the official top three LMP2 finishers at the Rolex 24 At Daytona.
United Autosports USA drivers Daniel Goldburg, Paul di Resta, Rasmus Lindh and James Allen received the winners’ trophy and their Rolex timepieces six weeks after they were officially declared the winners of the race due to Tower Motorsports’ post-race penalty that stripped them of the win.
Allen was flown out to Sebring to be a part of the ceremony, even though he will not drive in the event barring any extraordinary circumstances.
United Autosports USA General Manager Billy Glavin told RACER: “I’ve already got my Rolex. Sadly, team members don’t get them, but I always said I wanted one if I won the race. So I went out and bought a nice one. It really was a special result for the team.”
United Autosports CEO Richard Dean was also presented a trophy as the winning team owner, and the No. 22 United Autosports ORECA 07 was wheeled into Sebring’s victory lane, that had been decorated with a Rolex 24 backdrop for the occasion.
Riley’s Gar Robinson, Felipe Fraga, and Josh Burdon exchanged their original third-place trophy for a second-place trophy. Rodrigo Sales, Mathias Beche, and Benjamin Pedersen received the third-place trophy on behalf of PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports.
Daytona guest stars Felipe Massa (Riley) and Ben Keating (PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports) could not attend the ceremony for their respective teams.
The No. 22 United car leads the LMP2 xhampionship over the No. 74 Riley, 385-343.
