'Sinners' Scares the Daylights Out of Competition With Spectacular Global Box Office Debut
Sinners topped the domestic box office, displacing two-time champion A Minecraft Movie from the number one spot.
Having earned some of the best reviews of his already acclaimed career, director Ryan Coogler experienced what it feels like to deliver an original blockbuster for the first time this week, with his genre-bending new offering, Sinners, exceeding expectations in its box office debut. The movie took the top spot on the domestic box office charts, edging past the holdover hit A Minecraft Movie. It also broke out in overseas markets, but came in under expectations. Sinners reunites Coogler with his frequent collaborator Michael B. Jordan, who plays a dual role in the movie.
