Should I formally quit my job during the WARN notice period?

I'm in the US and was recently part of a large layoff by a large company. So people aren't in limbo for two months, companies often do layoffs the day of the WARN notice, but keep them on as employees to fulfill the 60-day notice requirement. You're technically an employee; you get the same paycheck and benefits. I'm in the very fortunate position of having landed a better job at a peer company already. My start date is after my planned termination date. If I quit my job a week before the planned termination date, when applying for future jobs, I can claim with a straight-ish face that I left because of a better opportunity and that the termination was voluntary, and there's no gap on my resume. An extra week of pay won't change my financial situation, but I'm also not sure how much a future employer would care about a layoff. Landing a job so quickly could signal I already had my foot out the door.
