THE NETHERLANDS. As Schiphol Airport Retail, the core category duty-free joint venture at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, begins a new partnership with Lagardère Travel Retail, management has paid tribute to a decade-long alliance with Gebr. Heinemann, which ends at midnight on 30 April.

As reported, a new joint venture between Schiphol Group and Lagardère Travel Retail takes over more than 20 stores, combining perfumes & cosmetics and sunglasses spaces with those dedicated to liquor, tobacco & confectionery.

Under the agreement, Lagardère Travel Retail owns 70% of the company that will operate the business, with the remaining 30% held by Schiphol.

A Schiphol Airport Retail statement said: “We are immensely grateful to Gebr. Heinemann for their dedication, professionalism and shared achievements.

“As this chapter closes, we are proud to announce the beginning of a new joint venture between Lagardère Travel Retail and Royal Schiphol Group.

“This marks the start of an exciting ten-year partnership focused on delivering innovative, sustainable and exceptional retail experiences for travellers at Schiphol Airport. This joint venture comes full with the spirit of collaboration and ambition for the future that defines this new beginning.

“Merging the two biggest companies, SAR and Kappé, which handle all the crucial categories for travel retail under the new JV, we are committed to elevating the airport retail experience to new heights.”

Schiphol Airport Retail Managing Director Simon Asmus said: “As the successful chapter with Gebr. Heinemann is closing, I want to extend heartfelt thanks for the years of partnership and dedication. We say goodbye with deep appreciation.

Schiphol Airport Retail Deputy Managing Director Martine de Lang added: “We thank Gebr. Heinemann for the valuable partnership and the legacy built together, and we look forward with great enthusiasm to the journey ahead with Lagardère Travel Retail.”

They added that the new JV will combine local expertise with global best practice to create “a retail environment that is as welcoming and forward-thinking as the airport itself”.
