Puello retained his belt via split decision with two scorecards of 115-113 and 116-112 in his favour while the third judge had it 115-113 for Martin. In the immediate aftermath, fans flooded to social media to voice their displeasure with the result. One supporter wrote: “Sandor Martin got robbed. Boxing is rigged time after time smh. Another posted: “I thought Sandor Martin won that. He has been on the wrong side of the score cards too many times.” A third added: “I can’t believe it was a close fight but Sandor Martin won!! This is the second time they’ve done this to him, it’s heartbreaking.” A fourth commented: “Sandor Martin just got robbed crazy.” Meanwhile, somebody else tweeted: “Sandor Martin won that clearly.” It wasn’t just those on social media that disagreed with the decision. As the scorecards were read out a cacophony of boos rang around the packed out Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It was certainly a closer fight than the reaction would have you believe but Martin should have got the nod in this writer’s opinion. Martin has proved himself to be a worthy contender at 140lbs.
