“Rings of Power” Renewed For Season 3

Amazon Prime Video has officially renewed its mega-budget “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series for a third season.

The new run is currently in preproduction with filming to commence this spring at Shepperton Studios in the United Kingdom.

THR broke the news, adding that the series will undergo a major time jump of several years beyond the events of the second season which finished airing back in October.

The new run “takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”

The War of the Elves takes place during the Second Age and is considered the first major battle in Middle-earth against Sauron (Charlie Vickers).

It’s not to be confused with the War of the Last Alliance, the battle seen in the prologue of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy in which Sauron is defeated.

Charlotte Brandstrom (“Shōgun”), Sanaa Hamri (“The Wheel of Time”) and Stefan Schwartz (“The Boys”) have been set at the new directors.

The second season was Amazon’s most watched returning season by number of hours watched.
