Danielle Hunter is getting a raise with the Houston Texans.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Texans and Hunter agreed to a one-year, $35.6-million extension on Wednesday. The deal will make Hunter the second-highest-paid defensive end in football.
The 30-year-old will make $32 million in 2025 and a guaranteed $54.1 million over the next two seasons.
Houston handed Hunter his extension shortly after the Cleveland Browns agreed on a record four-year, $160-million deal with Myles Garrett earlier this month. Hunter’s deal surpasses the average annual value of Maxx Crosby’s recently signed deal, which pays the Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher $35.5 million per season.
Hunter, a five-time Pro Bowler, continued to excel as a member of Houston’s D-line after signing a free-agent deal with the Texans last off-season.
He collected 46 tackles — 17 for a loss — and 12.0 sacks while appearing in all 17 of Houston’s games. In the Texans’ two playoff contests, Hunter didn’t record a sack but still made seven tackles.
The longtime Minnesota Viking now has 10 or more sacks in three straight seasons and in five of the last six.
In nine NFL seasons, Hunter has 99.5 sacks, which ranks fifth in the NFL over that time period. He only trails T.J. Watt, Khalil Mack, Garrett and Aaron Donald.
