Report: Mavericks’ Daniel Gafford out at least six weeks with MCL sprain

It just keeps getting worse for the Dallas Mavericks.

Centre Daniel Gafford, injured on Monday against the Sacramento Kings, will be out for at least six weeks with a Grade 3 MCL sprain, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon reported on Thursday.

Gafford and Kings guard Malik Monk made knee-to-knee contact near centre court as Sacramento brought the ball upcourt. Gafford went down immediately, holding his right knee, and had to be helped to the locker room.

This is just yet another in a string of long-term injuries for the Mavericks, who are already without Anthony Davis, P.J. Washington, Dereck Lively II and Dwight Powell.

Davis is out until at least the All-Star break after straining his groin in a 116-105 victory over the Houston Rockets on Saturday, his first game since the seismic trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis was replaced on the All-Star team by new teammate Kyrie Irving.
