Red Sox sign 2B Kristian Campbell to eight-year, $60M extension
Boston announced Wednesday that it has signed 22-year-old second baseman Kristian Campbell to an eight-year contract extension.

The Boston Red Sox have locked up some more of their young talent.
Just one day after handing star left-hander Garrett Crochet a contract extension, Boston announced Wednesday that it has signed 22-year-old second baseman Kristian Campbell to an eight-year extension of his own.
The deal is worth $60 million and includes team options after 2033 and 2034, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported.
Campbell broke camp with the Red Sox after an impressive 2024 in which he won the MLB Pipeline Hitting Prospect of the Year and the double-A Eastern League MVP in his first full professional season.
Through the first five games of his MLB career, the right-handed swinging Campbell has gone 6-for-16 (.375) with three extra-base hits, including his first home run.
The No. 4 prospect in MLB, per Baseball America, slashed .330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs and 24 stolen bases while suiting up in 115 games across three levels last summer. He ended the season with a 19-game cameo at triple-A.
Boston selected Campbell as a compensation pick after the fourth round in the 2023 draft out of Georgia Tech.
Since making his pro debut, Campbell has spent time at every defensive position other than first base, catcher and pitcher. He has played four games at second base and one in left field for the Red Sox.
Boston also carries two other top-20 prospects, per Baseball America, in outfielder Roman Anthony and shortstop Marcelo Mayer, who began the year at triple-A.
The Red Sox struck a big-money deal with a rookie for the second straight year following a $50 million, eight-year contract last April with outfielder/infielder Ceddanne Rafaela, who started 2024 with 35 days of service.
Campbell’s new deal supersedes a one-year contract paying the $760,000 minimum while in the major leagues.
