Poulin, Fillier, Knight finalists for PWHL forward of the year

The PWHL announced this year’s three finalists for the Forward of the Year on Tuesday and we are not surprised.

Marie-Philip Poulin of the Montreal Victoire, Hilary Knight of the Boston Fleet and Sarah Fillier of the New York Sirens are standout players who showcased excellence in the position throughout the regular season.

Poulin, nominated for the second year in a row, had a league-high five multi-goal games and also had five game-winning goals. As the Victoire’s homegrown captain, her strength on the offence was proven by her 26 points in 30 games.

Knight is the second captain to make the list, falling short of the playoffs but racking up 29 points, leading the Fleet with 15 goals. Knight also put in the work this season, recording 666:26 of total ice-time and leading forwards in that category.

Fillier debuted this season as the first overall draft pick and tied Knight with a high of 29 points in 30 games. The 24 year-old forward also set the record for most consecutive goals scored at five games, attributed to her consistency across the season.

Natalie Spooner of the Toronto Sceptres earned the award during the PWHL’s inaugural season last year.

Voting for Forward of the Year took place between the end of the regular season and the beginning of the playoffs.

The winner will be announced at this year’s PWHL Awards on June 25 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa.
