There was a major earthquake in Myanmar on Friday (read more here) that caused significant damage in Bangkok. This was demonstrated by a building collapsing completely (unfinished) and a video of the pool at the InterContinental Bangkok Sukhumvit spilling water onto the street.
Many of Bangkok’s buildings need to be inspected for structural damage, and apparently, this is an ongoing case with the Park Hyatt Bangkok, which has a notice on its website that the hotel is closed until further notice.

Conclusion
The earthquake caused significant damage in Myanmar, with thousands of deaths.
The damage in Thailand and Bangkok is not significant, but highrises are inspected for structural damage, which will take some time.
I have stayed at hotels three times during earthquakes in Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Quito. The last one in Ecuador was significant.
