No Joy announce new Fire-Toolz co-produced album ‘Bugland,’ share title track

Montreal’s No Joy have announced Bugland, their first album in five years, which will be out August 8 via Hand Drawn Dracula in North America and Sonic Cathedral in the UK. The album was co-produced No Joy’s Jasamine White-Gluz and Fire-Toolz (Chicago experimental/electronic musician Angel Marcloid) who says of their collaboration, “I didn’t have to adhere to a certain vision in a way that made me feel like I couldn’t be Fire-Toolz. I could easily relate to this album because Jasamine and I liked a lot of the same music, and I was able to be creative in ways that were freeing as if I was making my own album.“

The first single is Bugland‘s title track, which feels like 2020’s wild, glitchy, late-’90s-inspired Motherhood was the jumping off point and they both dove in headfirst to deeper waters. It still sounds like No Joy, but you hear Fire-Toolz in there as well. “This was the first song Fire-Toolz & No Joy produced together, initially without any plan to ever release it,” says Jasamine. “Our production styles melded so well together on this track that we decided we should make a whole album. The song came together super organically, from the Korn-esque bass lines to the earworm vocal, it’s the welcome sign of the album letting you know you’ve officially entered our world.”

No Joy will be on tour this fall, including Elizabethtown, NY’s Otis Mountain Getdown Festival and dates in the UK and EU. Those are listed below.
