Niall Horan is releasing an expanded version of his second album ‘Heartbreak Weather’ to celebrate its fifth anniversary.
The special edition will be released digitally on March 28 with CD and two-disc vinyl editions to be released on August 15. It features commemorative artwork and eight bonus tracks, including two new songs, ‘Dress’ and ‘Nothing’. The other bonus tracks include live recordings of ‘Small Talk’ and ‘Dear Patience’ (from Horan’s 2020 livestreamed performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall), ‘Put A Little Love on Me’ recorded at Vevo studios, an in-studio live recording of ‘No Judgement’ and stripped-down versions of ‘Nice To Meet Ya’ and ‘Black and White.’ You can pre-order it here.
Meanwhile, the deluxe vinyl edition contains two sea blue and white splatter discs and features the exclusive bonus track ‘Everywhere – Live On Tour’, recorded during Horan’s his huge 2024 ‘The Show’ world tour last year.
‘Heartbreak Weather’ was originally released on March 13, 2020. “The release date, which had been planned for months and months in advance, ended up being right as the pandemic started,” Horan recalled in a recent social media post to his fans. “With all of that happening and in turn the tour being cancelled, it wasn’t until last year that I finally got to see you all sing these songs back to me. The way it’s become a fan favourite over these past few years has truly made me so happy.”
At the time of its release, he said: “Heartbreak Weather’ is nearly a concept album,” Horan explained in 2020. “I wanted to write these songs from the start of a relationship through to the end – and from different sides – instead of every song being quite sad and all about me. Because when you go through a breakup, it’s not sad all the time.”
Late last year, Horan confirmed he is going on hiatus, but promised to return with a “brand new album”.
During his final concert of the trek at the Movistar Arena in Bogota, Colombia last Wednesday (October 9), Horan confirmed that fans wouldn’t be seeing him again any time soon.
“This stands from tomorrow onwards, you’ll never find me,” he told the audience (via The Mirror).
“I’m gonna be hungover as fuck tomorrow! And I’m gonna disappear for a while. I’m gonna make you guys a brand new album and I will be back, I promise.”
The tour concluded just before the death of Horan’s One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.
In his tributer to Payne, Horan wrote: “I’m absolutely devastated about the passing of my amazing friend, Liam. It just doesn’t feel real. Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious. He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and secure.
“All the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness. We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. The bond and friendship we had doesn’t happen often in a lifetime.”
He continued, recalling how he saw his former bandmate shortly before his death: “I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently. I sadly didn’t know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It’s heartbreaking.”
He ended the statement by sharing his “love and condolences” to Payne’s family and his son, Bear.
