New hire, remote and want to move. Please help me frame my argument!
I just recently started working for a government contractor that is headquartered in the city where I live (west coast). Before I was hired and signed my offer letter, I clarified with the recruiter that there are no location restrictions for remote work. Right now, I work on a team of 7 with four on the west coast and three on the east coast. I want to ask my manager if it would be okay for me to move to DC at the end of the summer, but I don’t know how to frame this. She is very open to remote work, our entire team works remote. And she has said before “I don’t care if you want to work from Hawaii as long as you’re working.” So I think she will be okay with it, but I’m hesitant because I’m a new hire and the people I’m shadowing live on the west. But I’m happy to work weird time frames. What do you think I should tell her? When should I tell her? I don’t want her to think I’ve been hiding it from her, so I want to do it as soon as possible. My only hesitation comes from the fact that everyone on my team does work in close proximity to an office, and we have no large offices in DC. The nearest one is about two hours away. But nobody goes into the office. Help!
