Netflix Sets Remake Of King’s “Cujo”

Netflix has greenlit a new film adaptation of the iconic Stephen King 1981 novel “Cujo” with Roy Lee set to produce the new incarnation.

The book deals with a once-friendly St. Bernard dog who turns into a killer after being bitten by a rabid bat.

A woman whose workaholic husband is out of town and who is having an affair with a local handyman, takes her ailing car to a garage for repairs only to be trapped with her son Tad in the sweltering car by the monstrous dog who has killed several people already.

The work was different in that the narrative unfolded from different points of view, including that of the dog in some chapters. King wrote the book during the height of his struggle with alcohol addiction.

The property was previously adapted onto film in 1983 with Dee Wallace playing the woman. That film scored mixed reviews and so-so box-office, but did earn more than three times its budget.

Roy Lee will produce the remake which follows in the wake of Max’s recent King adaptation “Salem’s Lot” and the upcoming Mike Flanagan-directed film “The Life of Chuck” opening in cinemas later this year.
