Murder by Death detail final album ‘Egg & Dart,’ share “Wandering”
They’re going on their final tour starting in June.

Earlier this year, gothic country vets Murder by Death announced that after 25 years as a band, they’d be going on a final tour and releasing a final album. They’ve now revealed details of the latter. They’re self-releasing Egg & Dart on June 13, and they recorded it in Los Angeles with Kevin Ratterman. Here’s more about it from the band:
The title Egg & Dart is a reference to an architectural motif popular since Greek & Roman times, often used in columns and still seen today in furniture, trim & molding. It represents the duality of life (the egg) and death (the arrow). Once you know about it, you see it everywhere. Seemed fitting for an album of songs about goodbyes.
Egg & Dart is arguably our most sad and beautiful to date, but that doesn’t stop it from also having moments of triumph, desolation, horror and joy. We explore (musically and lyrically) the challenges of letting go and moving onto the next phase.
“The album is basically an elegy,” frontman Adam Turla says. “The songs are about goodbyes and the different ways we think about that concept.” He adds, “It’s certainly our most personal collection of songs. It’s probably our saddest and most beautiful album, but it also has moments of real triumph and joy in the darkness.”
The first single is “Wandering.” “We’re releasing ‘Wandering’ first because it’s the song that is most directed to the fans and about my experience with this band,” Turla says. “It’s a ballad, and not a typical single — not even the single we plan to push for this record. But the heart of this band is our fans and I wanted to share this with you first.” Hear it below.
Murder by Death’s farewell tour begins in June and includes Brooklyn’s Warsaw on June 28 and Asbury Park, NJ’s Asbury Lanes on June 29, both with Laura Jane Grace. See all dates below.
