Lap after lap, Michelin tires delivered consistent performance to help Porsche Penske Motorsport secure a 1-2 finish for the third consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race.
This time, it was the No. 6 Porsche 963, driven by Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell, that took the top step of the podium at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The win marked the first of the season for the No. 6 crew, following three straight victories by their teammates Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy in the No. 7 Porsche.
“It’s amazing to finally get our first win of the season,” said Jaminet. “We came so close in the first three rounds. Somehow, it never went our way.
“Even today, things didn’t look great at the start, but I managed to put in some strong laps. With a great team strategy and solid pit stops, we made it to victory lane.”
The Monterey SportsCar Championship featured zero full-course cautions and delivered a thrilling finish, with the top three competitors battling down to the final lap.
The No. 24 Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8, driven by Dries Vanthoor and Philipp Eng, claimed third place.
The championship standings also tightened, with the No. 7 Porsche now leading the No. 6 by just 91 points—down from 123 heading into the weekend.
“Closing the gap a little bit on the sister car for the championship,” Jaminet added.
In GTD Pro, AO Racing continued its winning streak, notching a third consecutive WeatherTech Championship victory and second straight in the GTD Pro class. ‘Roxy,’ the pink dinosaur-liveried Porsche, filled in admirably for ‘Rexy’, with Laurin Heinrich and Klaus Bachler behind the wheel.
