Medicine Hat’s Gavin McKenna continues to dazzle with Michigan goal

Is there anything Gavin McKenna can’t do?

The illustrious prospect from the Medicine Hat Tigers, destined to go first overall in the 2026 NHL Draft, continued his highlight-reel post-season run in the WHL by scoring an absurd Michigan goal against the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday night.

With his Tigers already up 4-1 in the third period, McKenna clearly felt he had enough leeway to show his skills. The 17-year-old got in behind the net all alone and didn’t think twice, casually lifting the puck onto his stick and wrapping it top corner past goaltender Max Hildebrand.

McKenna was already having a productive night up to that point as he notched an assist on the Tigers’ third goal of the game in the second period. He went on to add another helper later in the third period on a goal from Ryder Ritchie.

With the 6-1 win, the Tigers took a 3-0 series lead over the Raiders in the second round of the WHL playoffs, predominantly on the back of McKenna.

The 17-year-old has been on a run for the ages. Going into Wednesday, he leads all skaters in post-season points with 19 and is second in assists with 14.

Even more impressive, perhaps, is that he entered the outing on a 47-game point streak. After picking up three more on Wednesday, the Whitehorse, Yukon native is only two games back of tying the longest streak since 2000 of 50 games.

The streak dates back to Nov. 6 and is only part of McKenna’s 41-goal, 88-assist regular season
