Man Utd fan vows not to cut hair until five straight wins – plan backfires spectacularly
United's hair-raising form has impacted some fans more than others...

Manchester United’s performances have had fans tearing their hair out across another wretched season – but the club’s poor run of form has had quite the opposite effect for one supporter.
Frank Ilett fired up The United Strand page on Instagram back on October 5, when the Red Devils were in the middle of a dismal winless streak under Erik ten Hag.
Clearly craving more torment and suffering on top of United’s disastrous campaign, Ilett vowed not to cut his hair until his beloved team had won five games on the bounce in all competitions.
Needless to say, Ten Hag was relieved of his duties just over a fortnight later and the Dutchman’s successor, Ruben Amorim, has failed to steady the ship, much to the dismay of Ilett, who has undergone quite the transformation in the intervening weeks and months.
The United Strand may have allowed himself to start dreaming of a trip to the barbers as Amorim steered the Old Trafford giants to three straight victories over Rangers, Fulham and Romanian outfit FCSB towards the end of January.

But that is as close as Ilett has got to a fresh trim thus far, with United slumping to three defeats from their last six matches, including Sunday’s crushing FA Cup elimination at the hands of Fulham.
The hair-raising results were plain to see as the social media star – now boasting over 66,000 followers on Instagram – updated fans on his latest look in the wake of United’s penalty-shootout loss.
‘Day 149 of not cutting my hair until Manchester United win five games in a row,’ Illet told his followers.
‘It was such a boring game yesterday and guess what… back to zero again.’
Given The United Strand’s barnet is threatening to take on a life of its own, many followers have started calling for the 28-year-old to change the rules of the challenge.
‘Wouldn’t be easier if this keeps going until Man United loses five games in a row? [laughing emoji]’ one fan responded to his latest post.
The last time Manchester United won five in a row
Newport 2-4 Man Utd (FA Cup) – January 28 2024
Wolves 3-4 Man Utd (Premier League) – February 1 2024
Man Utd 3-0 West Ham (Premier League) – February 4 2024
Aston Villa 1-2 Man Utd (Premier League) – February 11 2024
Luton 1-2 Man Utd (Premier League) – February 18 2024
Another replied: ‘Bro you must change the rulesss [three laughing emojis].’
But Illet has confirmed he is prepared to carry his journey through next season should United fail to pick up five consecutive wins before the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
‘What if United don’t win five in a row all season will this carry over to next?’ one follower asked, to which Illet replied: ‘I keep going until it’s done!’
The United Strand will be desperate for Amorim’s men to get back to winning ways when they return to Europa League action away to Real Sociedad on Thursday evening.
The Red Devils follow this up with what promises to be a tough Premier League clash at home to Arsenal, before resuming their last-16 battle with Sociedad at Old Trafford four days later.
Wayne Rooney labelled Amorim ‘naive’ for suggesting he could one day lead United to the Premier League title after the side crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday.
‘No, that is the goal,’ the United head coach said in response to Rooney’s remarks.
‘It would be naive to think that we are going to do that this season or that we’ll be the main contender for next season.’
Amorim added: ‘I know that in this moment everybody knows everything. I know that this is really easy, I was a pundit when I finished my career so I know it’s easy [to say].
‘Our goal is to win the Premier League. Maybe it’s not with me but our club is to win the Premier League like we did previously.
‘We want to do better and we are in a difficult moment but I am not naive. That’s why I’m here coaching Manchester United at 40 years old.’
