After spending the better part of two months without their top two players earlier this season, the Orlando Magic have been dealt yet another blow.
Orlando’s starting point guard, Jalen Suggs, is out indefinitely with a trochlea injury in his left knee, the team announced on Friday.
Suggs, 23, averaged career-highs of 16.2 points and 4.0 rebounds to go along with 3.7 assists in 35 games this season.
Picked fifth overall in the 2021 draft — directly after Toronto Raptors’ star Scottie Barnes — following an outstanding NCAA tournament performance with Gonzaga, Suggs gained a reputation as a stalwart defender and serviceable lead ball-handler at the NBA level.
Suggs has only played one game since Jan. 3 due to separate back and knee injuries, and first experienced discomfort while participating in return-to-play activities.
He underwent further evaluation, including an MRI, and was diagnosed with a trochlea injury. He is expected to make a full recovery.
